Abstract
The article discusses issues related to growing prevalence of higher educational Institutions in India. It is noted that a major collaborative project called National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning ( NPTEL) in 2003 has been started by the eight major Institutes of national importance viz Indian Institute of Technology and the Indian Institute of Science in association with the Ministry of Human Resources and Development of India.
