Abstract
This paper presents the optimization algorithm for scheduling controllable home appliances like power and time shiftable and thermal controllable devices to participate in the Automatic Demand Response (ADR) program. The objective is to minimize the electricity bill of end-consumer while actively participating in ADR program. Besides, the optimal charging and discharging schedule of battery energy storage system has been considered to improve its life expectancy. We have used the comfort index term to quantify end-consumer's comfort level for air conditioners and lighting systems. The scheduling problem is formulated as a mixed-integer linear optimization problem. The simulation results with two cases viz. optimized scheduling with and without comfort index and battery degradation cost are presented in this paper.
