Abstract
In the search for low-carbon emission fuel, nations worldwide are looking to use green hydrogen to transition into a carbon-free economy along with traditional renewable energy technology. In the present scenario, hydrogen production costs are higher due to various factors; one such factor is determining the best location for hydrogen production. The site selection for hydrogen production is based on the multiple aspects of the infrastructure, workforce, market and storage. This communication aims to re-utilize the ignored infrastructure in the petroleum industry to produce new and renewable energy to kickstart the hydrogen economy in the future. The group gathering stations (GGSs) is the best co-location for hydrogen production as it has all the necessary infrastructure for economical hydrogen production and storage. GGS produces enough wastewater, excess waste energy, a spacious and safe environment for hydrogen production, and access to good infrastructure for injecting hydrogen into nearby gas grids and depleted reservoirs.
