Abstract
Spectral filters based on plasmonic and other high refractive index dielectric metasurfaces have significant advantages over dyes, pigments, and glass based filters due to their chemical stability, immunity to environmental and age related degradation, and CMOS compatibility. In this thesis report, metasurface based spectral filters for the ultraviolet and visible region have been discussed. Numerical simulations have been carried out to demonstrate the performance of these filters. Multilayered aluminum metasurfaces for ultraviolet band pass filters have been discussed. Additionally the nanofabrication aspects of silicon nanostructures for all-dielectric metasurfaces have also reported. Nanostructures have been numerically simulated and fabricated to demonstrate visible filters. To characterize the action of visible filters of nanofabricated samples, the reflected colors were observed under microscopy, and these have been shown to agree well with simulations.
