Abstract
A novel nonlinear _lter, which is based on the concept of spline adaptive-ltering has been proposed in this thesis. The new _lter, which is referred to as the generalized spline nonlinear adaptive _lter (GSNAF) is capable of performing non-linearltering operations more accurately than several other existing non-linearlters. GSNAF has been successfully applied for benchmark classi-cation as well as clustering problems and improved classi_cation accuracy was obtained using the GSNAF based approach. In addition, the GSNAF was applied for nonlinear dynamic system ident cation and enhanced modeling accuracy over other non-linearlters was observed. Moreover, an adaptive listening room compensation Scheme was developed using a spline based approach, which also gave good equalization. The improved equalization was achieved at a reduced computational load in comparison with other schemes compared.
